Incorporating User Experience designers into Agile projects

Incorporating User Experience designers into Agile projects

Primary research question or research objective(s)

How to train our students to understand deeply the challenges so as to avoid the pitfall and work efficiently in future Agile working environment?

Research objective:
  1. Investigate and identify/categorize the types of problems that UX designers face in Agile projects within diverse industrial environment. This will make UX students be aware of the challenges that they might face with in a real Agile project.
  2. Furthermore, we will explore the ways to cope with the problems and create a working workflow;
  3. Our relevant findings and solution will be used to teach/train our students to work efficiently in future working environment. Agile software development processes are widely applied in diverse high-tech industrial companies. However, in practice the Agile road is still not smooth because of tight deadlines and staffing shortages as reasons for deficiencies in user-centered design process. Skipping user research and usability testing are very risky, which might lead to projects failure for the companies. In this research project, students from FHICT English stream have been involved to investigate and identify/categorize the types of problems that UX designers face in Agile projects by conducting interviews with professionals and online surveys in diverse companies as part of their UX and Software Development courses. After performing quality and quantity data analysis, relevant findings will be incorporated in the UX course teaching material so as to better prepare/train our students.
