Rehabilitation excergame for children with cerebral palsy (CP)

LyfecyclR is a home trainer excergame for the rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy (CP) after surgery. While growing up children with CP suffer from spasms causing bone fouling. As a result their legs may be turned inwards so they can no longer stretch them and, as a result, can no longer walk. Therefore these children undergo surgery at the Leuven university hospital (B) to restore their bone structures. After surgery they need to regain muscle strength and flexibility by cycling on a home trainer for at least one hour a day. To motivate them during this intense and painful process a game was developed helping them to improve their condition and muscle strength. During their exercises the children explore worlds and are challenged to improve their earlier results step by step. During gameplay biofeedback is used to adapt the game and gameplay. Furthermore the game collects important (medical) data that help to improve the treatment and research.
