Emptying Indoor Spaces with AR

Emptying Indoor Spaces with AR

How can a room be virtually emptied, with the help of a smartphone and an AR framework such as ARCore?

Seeing the release of new AR frameworks such as ARCore, markerless AR became more accessible than ever before. Inspired by this development, and earlier work with the Google Tango on emptying and refurbishing indoor spaces, a research project was set to create an application that could virtually empty an indoor space. With this technology, new applications could be created, such as an interior design application for refurnishing a room with items from your favorite stores.

An application was created that first makes the user map the indoor space, in order to have a clear understanding of the space. After this, it allows the user to choose their own texture for each surface by making a photograph in their own environment, which is then transformed into a seamless texture for a surface.
